Newspaper "Turkmenistan" publishes a roundtable discussion on environmental education

Today, the newspaper Turkmenistan published an article titled "Environmental Education — An Inseparable Part of Culture." In a roundtable format, experts discussed key issues concerning the development of an environmental culture among the younger generation of our country.

The discussion was attended by authoritative specialists: — Sapargeldy Durdyev — Head of the Department of Professional Development of Education Workers of the National Institute of Education of Turkmenistan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor; — Jemal Durdykova — Project Specialist of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); — Leyli Shikhmedova — Chairperson of the "Young Naturalist" public organization.

The participants of the meeting spoke in detail about the measures to increase ecological literacy being implemented in the country's educational institutions starting from preschool age. The experts paid special attention to the new, improved edition of the "Climate Box" interactive toolkit. This UNDP project is already actively used in schools, helping children study climate change issues in an accessible, playful format, while our school students and educators regularly win prizes at international thematic competitions and olympiads.

The discussion also featured detailed information on the innovative competitions organized by the "Young Naturalist" public organization and its educational eco-tours. A striking example was the recent two-day trip of young eco-activists to the Amudarya State Nature Reserve, where the youths reinforced their skills of a careful attitude toward the environment in practice.

The core message of the publication is that in an era of global climate challenges, a mindful and responsible attitude toward nature is not just a trend, but a demand of the times and the duty of every individual. Environmental education, instilled from early childhood, guarantees the preservation of the wealth of our native land and the transition of a healthy planet to future generations.
