Turkmenistan approves new regulations for the turnover of birds of prey

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan has officially approved a new Regulation governing the import, export, and trade of birds of prey within the country.

According to the document, owners of birds of prey (including golden eagles, falcons, Saker falcons, etc.) are required to register their birds with the authorized state body and the National Society of Falconers of Turkmenistan. The registration certificate is issued within 5 working days from the date of application.

Any operations, including purchase, sale, exchange, or gifting of these birds, must now be carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of the new Regulation.

The export and import of birds are permitted only with a special state license. For species listed under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), additional documentation is required in compliance with international standards. Turkmenistan officially joined this Convention in July 2024.

The adopted document is aimed at implementing the Law "On Hunting and Protection of Hunting Resources," as well as strengthening control over the conservation of predatory bird populations.
