The future of the Aral Sea in the hands of youth: Innovative competition launched in Turkmenistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has announced the launch of a major creative competition for young inventors in Turkmenistan: "Aral of the Future: Creating Solutions Today." The initiative aims to discover breakthrough ideas for the restoration of the Aral Sea region's ecosystem.

Active young people aged 15 to 25 are invited to participate. Organizers are looking for innovative concepts presented in the form of detailed 3D models or original art installations. Projects should focus on critical themes such as the development of "green" infrastructure, effective water resource management, and the implementation of sustainable consumption principles.

Key Dates for the Competition:

·         Until May 22, 2026: Application period.

·         June 3: A thematic exhibition and open voting for the best projects will take place at the UN Building in Ashgabat.

·         June 5: The solemn award ceremony for the winners will be held on World Environment Day.

This competition is designed to unite the efforts of youth and the expert community to ensure the long-term ecological well-being of the region. Detailed participation terms and document requirements are available on the official UNDP website.
