Rehabilitation of Endangered Arkhar Successfully Completed at Syunt-Hasardag State Nature Reserve

Staff at the Syunt-Hasardag State Nature Reserve have successfully rehabilitated an injured Turkmen mountain sheep (arkhar) lamb. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the young animal was admitted to the Biodiversity Conservation Center in April 2024 with a limb injury. During five months of rehabilitation, the lamb grew accustomed to human presence and regained its strength through a specialized diet. Very soon, residents and visitors of the Magtymguly district will have the opportunity to see the rescued animal at local environmental events. Turkmenistan places high priority on the conservation of arkhars, with three subspecies of these majestic animals currently under state protection. The implementation of modern technologies, such as camera traps, allows scientists to effectively monitor their population and behavior in their natural habitat.
