🦜 Parrots give "names" to humans and each other: Results of a large-scale research

A study by the ManyParrots project, which covered 880 pet birds, has revealed that parrots possess a much more complex communication system than previously thought. Scientists found that these birds are capable of using unique acoustic signals to identify specific individuals—both humans and animals. This was reported by THP.

Nearly half of the birds studied use individual sounds instead of general signals to address someone specific. Furthermore, parrots often call out their own "name" when they want to initiate interaction or draw attention to themselves. As study co-author Christine Dahlin notes, while it is too early to directly equate these avian signals with human names, the discovery confirms the high level of intelligence in birds and provides important clues for studying the evolution of language.
