Millions of "Baby blue eyes": Nemophila season begins at Japan's Hitachi Seaside Park
The famous Hitachi Seaside Park in Japan has officially launched its mass nemophila blooming season. This natural phenomenon, which occurs annually from mid-April to early May, transforms the park’s landscapes into a vast, sky-blue sea. In 2026, the number of these delicate flowers—popularly known as "baby blue eyes"—has reached a record five million. This incredible scale creates a unique sensation for visitors walking along the slopes of Miharashi Hill, as if they are strolling directly through the clouds.

Located just two hours from Tokyo, the site now rivals the cherry blossom season in popularity among tourists. The peak bloom, when the hills are completely covered in a solid azure carpet, usually occurs in late April. This period coincides with Japan’s "Golden Week," the country's peak time for domestic travel. According to park officials, these stunning views will remain until May 10, after which the flowers will gradually begin to fade.
