First Caspian Environmental Summit Held in Awaza National Tourist Zone

The First Caspian Environmental Summit took place on October 9, 2026, in the Awaza National Tourist Zone. The meeting was chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The summit was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Following the meeting, the Decision of the Heads of State on the outcomes of the Caspian Environmental Summit was adopted.

It was noted that Turkmenistan supports the development of constructive cooperation with all interested partners, primarily within the framework of the United Nations, aimed at ensuring the sustainable development and protection of the Caspian marine environment.

In 2023, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan presented the draft Caspian Environmental Initiative, aimed at consolidating efforts to protect the marine environment. Work to implement the initiative is being carried out both at the national level and in cooperation with partner countries and international organizations.

Turkmenistan was also the initiator of earlier formats of cooperation among the Caspian states. The first Summit of the Heads of Caspian States was held in Ashgabat in 2002. The first Caspian Economic Forum took place on August 12, 2019, in the Awaza National Tourist Zone and was aimed at expanding trade and economic ties between the littoral states.
